Chef on the Run Foods
A professional chef, Mike Carnell took the step of starting his own food business from Hay-on-Wye in 2003.
Mike's range of preserves have helped establish him across Wales in the decade since, winning many different awards for his products including a prize for Best Welsh Speciality Producer at the Great Taste Awards in London in 2007.
That award was given for their Grapefruit and Ginger Marmalade and is one of many award-winning products that Mike and his wife Rachel have created at Chef on the Run Foods, in a list that includes their Whimberry and Apple Jam, Quince Jelly, Pear and Rose-scented Syrup and Welsh Leek Chutney.
Cowboy Pickles
Lydia and Neil Cox have been running Cowboy Pickles from their farm in Talybont-on-Usk, Powys, since 2008.
Using an original Texan recipe passed down by Lydia's grandmother, these hot and spicy pickled gherkins are sold at farmer's markets and in shops and pubs across South Wales.
Givele Confectionery
For over 20 years Givele Confectionery have been creating a delicious selection of handmade chocolates using the finest quality Belgian Couverture.
Having established themselves in the south of England last year they relocated to Powys and continue to promote their confectionery throughout the country.
As well as chocolates with fillings such as Cointreau, Rum and Mint, Givele create solid chocolate creatures aimed at children. They also create tablets of fudge in up to a dozen different flavours as well as several more obscure ones, including Marmite!
Ice It
Audrey Gwillim's custom cakes and favours company is now approaching its 20th year of existence. Based near Builth Wells in Powys, Ice It was first established in 1994 and continues to produce beautifully decorated cakes for any occasion.
Audrey received her training at Coleg Sir Gar Carmarthen in Sugracraft and then City and Guilds in Sugarcraft and Cake Design. Her services are used for weddings, christenings, birthdays and corporate events.
Little Jam
Sarah Driver's Little Jam company is based in New Radnor and began life in 2008 when Sarah turned to jam making to make use of the surplus fruit from her garden.
Almost five years on, Sarah has gone from experimenting with making preserves to producing mass batches from her own range of recipes for not just jams but marmalades, conserves, chutneys and fruit vinegars too.
She keeps her products simple by using only high quality ingredients and no additives and sells her creations at shops and farmers' markets throughout Mid Wales, Shropshire and the Midlands.
Mintons Good Food
This family owned and run business operates from their Mid Wales base in Llandrindod Wells.
They were first established in the early 1970s but now distribute their wide range of fine foods to Wales, the West of England and the West Midlands. They now supply more than 5500 products from 400 food companies.
Their products are largely made up of specialist regional producers from Wales, and the food they stack includes gluten-free, organic and fairtrade brands.
Tregroes Waffles
Kees Huysmans started Tregroes Waffles in 1983 when, having baked a fresh supply of waffles using his newly invented recipe, he took his produce to Henllan Railway on Bonfire Night.
From those humble beginnings Tregroes Waffles have thrived, moving to Llandysul in 1994 where they now produce up to 4000 waffles an hour. They supply national supermarkets as well as a myriad of independent coffee shops, cafes and corner shops both within Wales and beyond.
