Leatherwise
Penny and Ian Thyer have been responsible for designing and making quality handmade leather bags from their base in Lower Cymtrych in Powys since 1988, and have since become one of Erwood Station Craft Centre's most popular artists.
Penny's education at Reading College of Art & Design and Ian's background in the leather industry has proven to be a successful combination. Once Penny has designed an item a pattern is made and Ian then cuts the high quality, soft leather by hand before Penny assembles each creation using the strongest nylon bonded thread.
Most of the material they use are off-cuts from manufacturing companies, which not only makes their products eco-friendly but also helps to keep their costs, and pricing, at a reasonable level.

Old Bakery Alpacas
Situated in the Wye Valley, Old Bakery Alpacas is a small business in its 12th year of existence.
Alpacas were first domesticated by the Incas an incredible 6000 years ago and their soft, hardwearing fleeces have proven useful ever since. They didn't arrive in the UK until the mid 1980s, but there are now more than 25000 of the animals spread across Britain; a testament to their growing popularity.
Gill and Peter Davies use their herd's coats to produce scarves, wraps, gloves and winter hats that are as high in comfort and warmth as they are in quality.
Woolcraft Wales
Llandovery-based Woolcraft Wales pride themselves on their skill in sourcing, creating and using yarn in the creation of a variety of clothes and accessories.
After preparing the fleece, Charlotte Lodge uses a double band spinning wheel to spin the yarn into a skein. She then dyes the wool she spins by carefully heating the yarn before using natural dyes such as onion skins, turmeric or log chip dyes to produce the rich colours she needs for her final products.
The wool is sourced from Wales only and is taken from several different breeds of sheep. Charlotte's work can be found at craft shows around the area, while she is also available to give demonstrations or one-on-one tuition upon request.
